What’s New

Dear Families,

This fall, come and join our wonderful community of parents, children, grandparents and caregivers. Children feel so comforted in this supportive, fun-loving, musical atmosphere! (Adults do too!) Whatever the season, Music Together® is a place where children and adults can sing, play instruments, dance and laugh together.

Our song collection this session is the favorite Flutes Collection. Fall classes begin the week of September 26,2010.

We are excited about our new location in Fairfield! Our classes will be held at Essex Dance Academy, 260 Rt. 46 East. The studio is beautiful, with a large parking lot all on the same level. Come see us there and let your Fairfield friends know too.

We offer classes every day of the week and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) too!

We are also holding some fun early evening classes with Bruce on Tuesdays and with Missy on Wednesdays. Children may wear their “jammies” to class if they would like to as it will be a “Jammies Jam"!

We will also have Babies classes (newborn to 8 months) in our Verona and West Orange studios. Check our “Find a Class” page for exact times and start dates.

Our big excitement this fall is our new Music Together Guitar class for parents!!  We will offer this class on Sundays in West Orange and Tuesday evenings in Verona. This program is offered exclusively to families  who enroll in a mixed-age or babies' class. In class, students learn basic beginner guitar concepts, including simplified chording, so that they may accompany themselves and their families as soon as possible. Parents or caregivers learn their child’s favorite Music Together songs on the guitar. Classes meet once a week for 8 weeks.

If you would like to see the entire fall schedule, go to our “Find a Class” page. You can view a sample class on the “Find a Class” page too.

We think our classes are absolutely the best you can find to enrich your children’s lives, so come and take a FREE trial class and see for yourself. Call us to RSVP at 973-239-2376.

Countless families over the years have told us how much of a positive impact Music Together has had on their family life. We love being able to take part in this family music-making with you. We strive to offer the highest quality music and movement classes, involving the whole family, while having way too much fun in the process!

We invite you to celebrate, dance, sing, and sway into the Fall days with us! We can’t wait to share the new Flutes Collection with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the classes?
The classes are 45 minutes each.

How many classes in each session?
Classes are held once a week for 10 weeks. We run Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions.

What does the fee include?
Tuition includes the 10 classes for you and your child, a professionally recorded CD of all the music we use in class (A different CD for each semester, rotated over three years. So each semester there is a new song collection. You can take Music Together for three years and not repeat the same music.). Plus an additional complimentary CD. You will have two ways to listen to the music, one for the car, one for the home.) A Parent Guide DVD is given to parents who are new to Music Toge
ther, entitled “Music Together at Home: Helping Your Child Grow Musically.”

How many children in a c
lass?
Young children participate at their own level in small classes of mixed ages. Class size is a maximum of 12 children. Each registered child is accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Occasionally, there might be an extra family making up a class.

What is the age of the children in class?
The classes are mixed age groups, from babies, up to preschoolers. (Newborn–age 5) The program is family based so children of different ages can enjoy class together, like siblings. Activities focus on adult/child interaction rather than child/child interaction. The Babies class is for newborns through 8 month olds.

What do you do in class?
In our Music Together classes, up to 12 children and the adults who l
ove them, meet each week to experience songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. You’ll find instruments galore, drums of all sorts, bells, triangles, shakers, rhythm sticks, scarves, maracas, and more! Both adults and children sit in a circle, dance, sing, and have fun!

What if my child won’t sit for the whole class?
Music Together classes maintain an informal atmosphere,
we don’t expect the children to sit for the whole class, and we don’t sit for 45 minutes either. We trust and respect each child’s unique learning style. Some will simply stare and study the experience; others wonder around the room exploring the space and checking in visually with the adult who brought them. Then there are those who sing and dance freely. They display what they have learned where and when they feel comfortable, usually at home or in the car, etc. As they become more familiar with the CD/tape, parents may observe more musical behaviors from their children. However, this is a non-performance oriented program emphasizing the creative and fun process. You are your child’s most important music model. So just relax and try to find your own joy in the music. If you are enjoying yourself, you child will see and sense that, and will want to share that enjoyment with you.

How can I be the music model for my child, when I’m not musical at all?
Parents/Caregivers, regardless of their own musical ability, contribute greatly to the enrichment of the child’s musical experiences. Whatever the level
of your technical skill, remember, the most important things you can model for your child are simply authentic pleasure, interest, and the desire to participate in music activities.

Can I preview a class?
Yes, however some semesters we do more demonstration classes than others. Call to reserve a spot and preview a class, 973-239-2376. Because our classes fill up so quickly, we encourage families to send in registration forms before attending demo classes. Full tuition reimbursement will be given if you decide not to attend before classes begin. No refunds after starting date of class.
